1890s Antique Spun Cotton Christmas Ornament Peach, German Fruit Ornament, Victorian Feather Tree

Superb antique German spun cotton peach Christmas ornament, in bright colors and finished with a fabric leaf! Circa late 1890s.

This is a wonderful example of antique pressed cotton Christmas ornaments, so popular during the Victorian period. These ornaments were pressed from molds with fine spun cotton mixed with a bit of glue, then dyed to produce pastel color ornaments. Once dried, they were coated with glue again and sprinkled with sparkly mica for a bright finishing touch.

This wonderful very early ornament is molded in the shape of a delicious ripe peach. Colors range from bright yellow, to shades of orange, and blends into a rosy red at the top. It has a simple metal hanging loop which has an original fabric leaf attached. An old ornament hook is also attached and we have left it as found!

It measures 2 inches wide and is in excellent antique condition free of tears, dents, or odors. The mica flakes are still sparkly. It’s in remarkable condition for its very old age, over 130 years old!

This special antique German spun cotton fruit Christmas ornament makes a beautiful addition to your antique ornament collection.
