1890s German Double Bell Glass Ornament RARE Dome Cap Combo Christmas Ornament

Lovely, hard to find combo bell ornament with a scarce metal dome cap, circa late 1890s Germany.

What makes this ornament so rare and unique is its original plastered conical metal cap! Prior to the spring cap, metal ornament caps were adhered by hand with a sealing wax blend, a very time consuming and tedious process. (The spring cap was invented in the very early 1900s, which is the familiar stye that is still in use today.)

This silver and pink ornament features a joined combination of two glass spheres and stands 2.5 inches tall. The top pink sphere measures one inch wide and the bottom is 1.75 inches. The bottom sphere is indented with the original glass pealer hanging from the center. Wonderful!

It is in very good antique condition free of chips, cracks, or breaks. The silvering is still strong overall, after all these decades. There is age related paint loss with the painted stripes on the bottom fading.

It is a beautiful ornament in amazing condition, especially for its age at over 125 years old! A fabulous addition to any antique ornament collection, a very thoughtful gift for the collector of fine Christmas ornaments.
