1900s Antique Clip On Bird Christmas Ornament, Goose Swan Blown Glass Bird Ornament

Very early antique German blown glass clip on bird Christmas ornament with great colors, 1900s-1910s.

This is a very special and scarce antique figural glass bird ornament. It is very hard to find these old ornaments that include this particular clip. The later clip bird ornaments opened towards the head, with earlier ornaments opening to the back as this one does.

The bird is very sculptural with nice feather and wing details. The silver body is bumpy and has washes of red, gold, and blue on the wings. It has a beautiful curved neck and large beak. The tail feathers are the original spun glass.

It measures 4.75 inches, beak tip to tail end. The large metal clip is fancy and ornate, with a pointed scallop fan shape which is quite rare and indicative of its age. The spring legs are quite unique, comprised of one long spring which was bent into a “U” shape and inserted through two holes in the top clip plate. This is very rare, as usually there are two springs. This is another indication of the early age of this fine antique ornament. It is in very good antique condition, the silvering strong, bright and crisp. It is free of chips or cracks, with the usual age related oxidation at the tail end. It appears that the clip was reattached at some point, showing a silvery-gray glue.
