1900s Very Large Clip On Bird Christmas Ornament 8” Antique German Songbird Glass Clip Ornament

Lovely, hard to find extra large 8”antique German clip on bird Christmas ornament, a beautiful and delicate bird which sits on a very old antique clip. Circa early 1900s.

The bird is a lovely aged silver, highly sculptural with finely molded feather and wing details. The sides are colorful with bands of green, gold, and pink-red. The head has a black cap and the long black beak tip still has the tiny ball of glass where the glass blower ended. Wow! The tail feathers are the original spun glass which have aged to a light gray.

It measures an impressive 8 inches wide, beak tip to tail end. The blown glass body is 5.5 inches wide. The original spun glass tail and spring legs are intact. The large, one-piece metal clip is fancy and ornate, with a pointed scallop fan shape. The spring legs are quite unique, comprised of one long spring which was bent into a “U” shape and inserted through two holes in the top of the clip plate. This is very rare, as usually there are two springs. This is another indication of the early age of this fine antique ornament.

It is in very good antique condition at over 120 years old!  There are some areas of spotting here and there and the tail end has a chip. (The clip likely originally had two plates to clamp on the tree branch but was lost long ago, and this bent adaptation occurred. It displays beautifully and safely, as shown in one of our detail photos.)

What a beautiful and rare extra large antique songbird ornament. A must have for any antique German or figural Christmas ornament collection. A thoughtful gift for the bird lover!
