1900s Antique German Ornament Clip On Peacock, Figural Glass Bird Clip Christmas Ornament
Lovely and delicate early German glass peacock clip on ornament. It is a beautiful and delicate bird which sits on a very old antique clip. Circa early 1900s.
It is simply wonderful with finely molded feather and wing details. The silvered body has hand painted red and brown accents on the wings. The pointed beak is super fine and thin and still has the tiny ball of glass at its tip where the glass blower ended. Wow! The crown consists of three spikes which are so very delicate. The tail feathers are the original spun glass in a silvery-white color.
The glass is very thin and fine, typical of this early era of German glass ornament making. It measures 6 inches wide beak tip to tail end, the glass body being 3.5 inches. The spun glass tail and spring legs are intact. The large metal clip is fancy and ornate, gold flashed, in a scallop fan shape which is quite rare and indicative of its age. The spring legs are quite unique, comprised of one long spring which was bent into a “U” shape and inserted through two holes in the top clip plate. This is very rare, as usually there are two springs. This is another indication of the early age of this fine antique ornament.
It is in excellent condition free of chips or cracks. The thin crown and beak are superb and completely intact, which is somewhat amazing for its age and their fragile nature. The original spring legs and antique metal clip are present. There is a bit of the usual age related oxidation at the tail end.
