Antique German Figural Glass Christmas Ornament Girl in a Flower Basket, 1920s
Sweet and delicate nicely molded antique German figural glass Christmas ornament in wonderful condition. Circa 1920s. Featured on page 218 of John Lightner’s “Christmas Rarities- Rare Antique German Glass Ornaments”, 2007 edition. Fabulous!
The glass is very thin and fine, typical of this early era of German glass ornament making, individually blown by mouth into a highly detailed mold and then hand finished with painted details.
This is the classic “Girl in a Flower Basket, or, “Flower Girl” antique ornament. She sits in a pink woven basket with a large yellow flower in the center and five more silver ones wrapping around the form. She has a pretty color and pink sleeves. The tall pike creates her blue-green cap. It measures 2.5 inches tall to the top of the unmarked metal cap. It retains the original flat Lauscha style hanging loop. It is in excellent antique condition free of chips or cracks to the ornament, the silvering still very strong. There is a bit of minor age related paint loss and oxidation at the top and the pike is chipped under the cap. Our photos show all sides of this lovely antique ornament.
