RESERVED Antique German Stork Unsilvered Clip On Glass Christmas Ornament 1900s, Unsilvered Ornaments
Fabulous antique mouth blown German clip on stork bird Christmas ornament, in fabulous condition, circa early 1900s. In Germany and other parts of Europe, to have a stork nest in your barn or rooftop is considered good luck!
Unsilvered white bird ornaments were only made for a short period of time and are hard to find. It is simply wonderful, with a white matte body and a long, orange-red beak. The bird is highly sculptural with deeply molded feather and wing details. The head has a free blown crest which is very unusual and rare! The white tail feathers are spun glass. Hand painted black dot eyes finish off this wonderful antique clip on bird ornament.
It measures 6.5 inches wide beak tip to tail end, and 5 inches tall including the clip. The blown glass body is 3.75 inches wide and it stands about 3.5 inches tall. It is attached to a pointed scallop fan clip which is indicative of its age. The spring legs are quite unique, comprised of one long spring which was bent into a āUā shape and inserted through two holes in the top clip plate. This is very rare, as usually there are two springs. This is another indication of the early age of this fine antique ornament.
It is in very good antique condition free of chips or cracks to the bird. There is a chip on the underside pike area which the tail covers. (please see the detail photos). There is some minor age related paint loss, and oxidation to the metal clip. There is a faint blue wash on one part of the tail, this may or may not have been original.
What an amazing and very scarce antique German clip on stork Christmas ornament. A must have for any antique German or figural Christmas ornament collection. A thoughtful gift for the bird lover!
