Large Heidt Rose with Hip of Leaves Figural Glass Christmas Ornament, USA Ornament 1930s

Extremely rare large Heidt ‘Rose with a Hip of Leaves’ glass Christmas ornament in fabulous condition. American made ornament, circa late 1930s by the German ornament maker Heidt! (These are often mistaken for USA Premier ornaments, and sometimes even as German ornaments.)

This ornament has a unique history. Many German ornament makers fled Germany during the war, and a man named Heidt arrived in New York and created his ornament company there. This is one such classic ornament that he created.

This deeply embossed jumbo flower ornament is so beautiful with lovely layers of petals creating the large rose bud, and a second ribbed rose hip form at the top.  The pike is extra long, a signature Heidt feature. There is a small pontil on the bottom indicative of a mouth blown ornament. (The pontil is covered in antique period wax. It is not oxidation or damage.)

It is a very hard to find large size measuring 4.25 inches tall to the top of the cap and 2.5 inches wide. The pike is intact and is topped with an unmarked metal Heidt style cap. It is in excellent vintage condition free of chips or cracks, a bit of minor paint loss.

This is a rare early USA glass Christmas ornament, a great addition to any American ornament collection. A must have for the Heidt collector!
