RARE Antique German Christmas Ornament Large Blue Coat Santa with Tree and Backpack
This is a very hard to find form, an uncommon early German Santa Belsnickle in fabulous condition! Circa 1930s-1940s.
The Santa carrying a tree ornament is the classic one seen so often, and the other more common version shows Santa holding his toy sack. This ornament features both and is quite rare. He is simply wonderful, full of nicely molded details. His blown glass body features lacquer paint over a silvered body. He has a a rare hand painted flesh face with a wonderful expression and red dot mouth.
He wears his bright blue suit and has molded black boots, standing on a disk of white mica snow. Mica also trims his hat, cuffs, and suit. He holds the Christmas tree under his right arm which is also sprinkled with a light green mica. This is also very rare! His big gold sack sits over his left which rests behind his back. He measures a large 5.25 inches tall and is topped with an original Lauscha style metal cap. This fine ornament is in excellent antique condition free of chips or cracks, just a bit of minimal paint loss and crazing to the blue lacquer. Our photos show all sides of this amazing ornament.
