1890s German Double Glass Ornament Dome Cap Combo Christmas Ornament

Lovely, hard to find combination ornament, a hand painted sphere with bell topped with a scarce metal dome cap. Circa 1890s Germany.

What makes this ornament so rare and unique is its original plastered conical metal cap! Prior to the spring cap, metal ornament caps were adhered by hand with a sealing wax blend, a very time consuming and tedious process. (The spring cap was invented in the very early 1900s, which is the familiar stye that is still in use today.)

This pink and silver ornament features a joined combination of a large glass sphere and a blown glass bell. It measures 6 inches tall with top sphere measuring 2.75 inches. It features lovely hand painted daisies and vertical squiggle lines on the sides. The bottom bell is 2 inches tall and is quite unique with a blown glass clapper, not the usual wire hanging from the center. Wonderful!

It is in very good antique condition free of chips, cracks, or breaks. The silvering is still strong overall, after all these decades. There is some age related paint loss and fading.

It is a beautiful ornament in amazing condition, especially for its age at over 125 years old! A fabulous addition to any antique ornament collection, a very thoughtful gift for the collector of fine Christmas ornaments.
