1890s German Large Outdent Ornament RARE Dome Cap Antique Christmas Ornament

Unusual very hard to find large multi outdent teardrop with a scarce conical dome cap, circa late 1890s Germany.

What makes this ornament so rare and unique is its original plastered metal cap! Prior to the spring cap, metal ornament caps were adhered by hand with a sealing wax blend, a very time consuming and tedious process. (The spring cap was invented in the very early 1900s, which is the familiar stye that is still in use today.)

This silver and gold large oval teardrop ornament is so unique with 8 large round outdents circling the form, very modern in appearance for its age! There is an wide center band and it is finished with a large lobed finial at the bottom. It measures 4 inches tall and is in excellent antique condition with minor wear, a spot of wax dripping. Wonderful!

It is a very rare ornament in amazing condition, especially for its age at over 125 years old! A fabulous addition to any antique ornament collection, a very thoughtful gift for the collector of fine Christmas ornaments.
