1890s Antique Dome Cap German Blown Glass Sugared Venetian Dew Christmas Ornament

Hard to find early German blown glass ornament with lovely Venetian Dew accents and a conical dome cap, circa 1890s.

What makes this ornament so unique is its original plastered metal cap! Prior to the spring cap, metal ornament caps were adhered by hand with a sealing wax blend, a very time consuming and tedious process. (The spring cap was invented in the very early 1900s, which is the familiar stye that is still in use today.)

This unique round ornament is bright yellow with a long fat pontil at the bottom. Two wide stripes are clear, covered with a bumpy ground glass texture which reflects the light beautifully. It is topped with the period conical dome cap which has an original curly wire hanging loop attached. It measures 2.5 inches tall and is in excellent antique condition free of chips and minimum dew loss. Wonderful!

It is a very rare ornament in amazing condition, especially for its age at over 125 years old! A fabulous addition to any antique ornament collection, a very thoughtful gift for the collector of fine Christmas ornaments.
