1890s Unique Triple Indent Mushroom Umbrella Ornament RARE Dome Cap Christmas Ornament

Unusual very hard to find multi indent silver and gold stemmed ornament with a scarce conical dome cap, circa 1890s Germany.

What makes this ornament so rare and unique is its original plastered metal cap! Prior to the spring cap, metal ornament caps were adhered by hand with a sealing wax blend, a very time consuming and tedious process. (The spring cap was invented in the very early 1900s, which is the familiar stye that is still in use today.)

This silver and gold ornament is so unique with the top featuring an indented silver and gold cap which is attached to the stem, reminiscent of an umbrella or mushroom. The stem has 3 round indents circling the form and is finished with a large rounded finial at the bottom. Each indent features a light blush of color. It measures 3.5 inches tall and is in very good antique condition free of chips or cracks, the dome cap secure. There is some age related spotting as shown in the photos.

It is a very rare ornament in amazing condition, especially for its age at over 130 years old! A fabulous addition to any antique ornament collection, a very thoughtful gift for the collector of fine Christmas ornaments.
