1920s Antique Glass Ornament Tinsel Inside Germany, Unsilvered Cottage Christmas Ornament, Vintage Glass House Ornament, RARE

Super rare German unsilvered Christmas ornament, a very hard to find glass lantern (or sometimes referred to as a cottage or guard house), with a copper flower finial and silver tinsel inside! Circa 1920s.

It is a very fun ornament, with nicely molded details including scalloped shingles, embossed swags, corner stones, and bottom brickwork. It is hand painted with bright pink windows with a pale gold swag below them. The top is also gold and the bottom brick portion is red. A long multi-branch silver tinsel spray was inserted into the interior of the ornament to give it sparkle and shine. What a unique way to show a lit lantern! The ends of the tinsel emerge outside of the ornament, forming the hanging loop on top, and attaching to the metal flower disc at the bottom. It retains its original unmarked metal cap.

This wonderful antique unsilvered tinsel and glass ornament measures 2.75 inches tall to the top of the cap and about 1.5 inches wide. It is in excellent condition free of chips or cracks, just a bit of light minor paint loss. Our photos show all sides of this amazing and rare ornament.

SIDE NOTE: Unsilvered ornaments with tinsel inside are most often American made War Era ornaments from the 1940s. However, this particular ornament is German made and very early. To set themselves apart from other ornament manufacturers, some of the Lauscha ornament makers would create this style of ornament which was so different from the silvered figurals that the region was known for. This makes this ornament quite special and hard to find!
