1900s Antique Wire Wrapped Bird with Berry Christmas Ornament Germany, Glass Hanging Bird

Very early antique blown glass bird with berry Christmas ornament, in fabulous condition. It is a rare tinsel and wire wrapped hanging bird, complete with the original composition berry. Circa early 1900s, Germany.

It is simply wonderful, featuring a bright silver body accented with red wing patches and a black head cap. The black beak is super fine, thin, and long. The point tip of the beak still has the tiny ball of glass where the glass blower ended. Wow! The red berry is securely attached by wire to the beak. The bird is highly sculptural with finely molded feather and wing details. The body is wrapped in silver crinkle wire, and a lead tinsel hanging loop is wired to the body. The tail is spun glass feathers. It measures 5.25 inches wide from the beak tip to the tail end, the glass body being 3.5 inches. It is in excellent condition free of chips, cracks, or breaks. There is some usual oxidation at the tail end. The tail feathers have been replaced. (There is also a small indent in the bottom when this mold was used as a clip on ornament.)

What an amazing and striking very early antique vintage German glass bird with berry Christmas ornament. A must have for any antique German or figural Christmas ornament collection. A thoughtful gift for the bird lover!
