RESERVED 1910s Antique German Ornament Tinsel Inside, Vintage Glass Christmas Ornaments, Unsilvered Tinsel Ornament, RARE
Super rare very early German unsilvered Christmas ornament, a hand painted round sphere with mercury glass finial and silver tinsel inside. Circa early 1900s.
It is a stunning ornament, unsilvered and painted a light gold color. It is hand painted with red flowers that wrap around the form and the bottom is finished with a red mercury glass bead finial. A long multi-branch silver tinsel spray was inserted into the interior of the ornament to give it sparkle and shine. It retains the original unmarked Lauscha style metal cap.
It measures 4 inches tall to the top of the cap and 2.5 inches wide. The bottom finial is a half inch wide. It is in excellent antique condition free of chips or cracks, the pike intact. There is some paint loss at the top from age. Our photos show all sides of this amazing and rare ornament.
What a fabulous addition to any antique German or unsilvered ornament collection, very hard to find!
SIDE NOTE: Unsilvered ornaments with tinsel inside are most often associated with American made War Era ornaments from the 1940s. However, this particular ornament is German made and very early. To set themselves apart from other ornament manufacturers, some of the Lauscha ornament makers would create this style of ornament which was so different from the silvered figurals that the region was known for. This makes this ornament quite special and hard to find!
We have a wonderful collection of early antique German glass ornaments!
