1920s Antique German Blown Glass Ornament, Fish Carp Christian Figural Christmas Ornament

Wonderful antique German figural blown glass fish Christmas ornament in excellent condition! Circa 1920s-1930s.

This is an early light silver and pink-salmony carp fish ornament. The carp has been a dominant Christian Christmas symbol since the mid 1800s when figural ornaments started to decorate the family Christmas trees. It represents good blessings and abundance, as well as the Christian faith.

It features a deeply molded design, showing graduating sizes of fish scales, gills, multiple fins, and a pointed mouth which indicates the carp species. The glass is very thin and fine, typical of this early era of German glass ornament making.

It measures 3.25 inches wide to the end of the cap. The silvering is still very strong with a wash of a light pink-salmon color at the top which fades to silver about midway. The side fins and eyes are hand painted dark brown. The pike acts as the tail and is intact and is finished with the original unmarked Lauscha style cap. It still retains the original cotton cord hanging loop, always a nice bonus on these old antique ornaments (pre-metal hanging hook days).

This wonderful antique glass fish ornament is in excellent condition free of chips, cracks, or silvering loss. There is a bit of the usual oxidation at the tail end. What a fabulous addition to your vintage antique figural Christmas ornament collection!
