1920s Antique German Christmas Ornament Beetle, Blown Glass Scarab Insect Good Luck Ornament

Early antique German lucky beetle or scarab glass Christmas ornament, circa 1900s-1920s.

This is a nicely molded silver and pink figural glass insect ornament. The embossed beetle is highly detailed with numerous vertical striations on the wings and body. The bottom is embossed with additional striations and six legs. It comes to a lobed point.

It measures 2.5 inches wide to the top of the original unmarked metal cap. It is in very good antique condition free of chips or cracks to the ornament, the usual age related paint loss. The pike is chipped which the cap mostly covers.

This is a classic antique German glass Christmas ornament. A must have for any antique German or figural ornament collection!

SIDE NOTE: The discovery of the Egyptian tombs in the early part of the 20th century held wonder and fascination for Europeans. The scarab beetle is an important symbol of rebirth and resurrection, as well as good luck and fortune. Thus, it quickly became a popular subject for German figural glass ornament makers.

We have some wonderful antique pre-1946 glass Christmas ornaments you might like, mostly German.
