1920s Antique German Christmas Ornament 4.5″ Carp Fish, Large Curved Mercury Glass Fish Ornament

Wonderful nicely molded antique German blown glass fish Christmas ornament in a large size and unique curved form! Circa early 1920s.

This is a hard to find antique German carp fish ornament. The carp has been a dominant Christian Christmas symbol since the mid 1800s when figural ornaments started to decorate the family Christmas trees. It represents good blessings and abundance, as well as the Christian faith, and was very popular during Victorian times.

This is a large size ornament at 4.5 inches wide. It features a bright silver deeply scaled body finished with hand painted pink accents. It is superbly molded, showing graduating sizes of fish scales, gills and multiple fins. The body has a slight curve to it which makes this form quite rare. The pike acts as the tail and is intact. It is topped with the original unmarked Lauscha style metal cap.

It is in excellent condition free of chips or cracks. There is the usual oxidation on the pike end. The silvering is still very strong with almost no paint loss. What a fabulous addition to your vintage antique figural Christmas ornament collection. Highly sought after, a thoughtful Christian gift!
