1920s Antique Glass Bird Christmas Ornament Embossed Germany, Hanging Bird Annealed Hook

Rare German blown glass bird Christmas ornament, embossed Germany on the bottom! Circa early 1920s.

This is a very sweet antique figural glass bird ornament. It is hard to find these old ornaments that include the annealed glass hook on top. This one is especially rare, as it is also embossed “Germany” on the bottom. Certain Lauscha ornament makers of the time thought this feature would add value and desirability to their ornaments, distinguishing them from their neighbor ornament makers.

It is simply wonderful, featuring deeply molded feather and wing details. The silver beak is super fine, thin, and long. The point tip of the beak still has the tiny ball of glass where the glass blower ended. Wow! It is a pretty bright silver color. The tail feathers are the original spun glass.

It measures 4.5 inches wide, beak tip to tail end. The blown glass body is 2.75 inches wide. It is in very good antique condition. The embossed Germany mark is crisp and clear. The annealed hook is intact and complete. There is a bit of age related oxidation and paint loss, common for its age at 100 years old! There is a small bit of original antique brown wax/glue showing on the tail area.

What a wonderful very early German blown glass hanging bird Christmas ornament. A must have for any antique German or figural Christmas ornament collection. A thoughtful gift for the bird lover.
