Lovely antique German glass peacock clip on bird ornament, in a brilliant rainbow of colors with a bright gold crown and beak! Circa 1930s.

This is a very early vintage figural mercury glass bird ornament. It is simply wonderful with finely molded feather and wing details. The silvered body is covered in a nicely blended assorment of colors from light to dark pink, into lavender and purple, light blue into turquoise, and a beautiful light yellow-gold. The pointed beak is super fine and thin and still has the tiny ball of glass at its tip where the glass blower ended. Wow! The crown consists of three gold spikes which are so very delicate. The tail feathers are the original spun glass in a silvery-white color.

The glass is very thin and fine, typical of this early era of German glass ornament making. It measures 4.75 inches wide beak tip to tail end, the glass body being 3 inches. It is in excellent condition free of chips or cracks. The thin crown and beak are superb and completely intact, which is somewhat amazing for its age and their fragile nature. The original spring legs and waffle patterned metal clip are present. There is a bit of the usual age related oxidation at the tail end. The spring legs are attached with white glue which may or may not be original.

What a unique early antique German glass peacock clip ornament. A must-have for any antique German or figural Christmas ornament collection, rare in this pretty rainbow design. A thoughtful gift for the bird lover or rainbow collector!
