1930s Japan Glass Christmas Ornaments IOB, 12 Multi Color Prewar Tree Ornaments in Box
Very early set of 12 colorful Japan mercury glass ornaments complete in their wonderful original box, circa 1930s.
Japan started supplying the American market with Christmas ornaments and decorations in the mid 1920s and this is an example of their prewar ornaments. The box features classic period graphics on all sides. Inside, 12 bright ornaments sit in their secure spot within the original cardboard dividers. They measure 1.75 inches wide and are in good antique condition free of chips or cracks. The colors are still bright after all of these years with a few showing some paint loss. Most have their original metal Japan caps, with a few missing. Several have original hanging loops still attached, a nice part of their history.
The original box measures 7.25 inches by 9.75 inches and is in good condition for its age. It does have some tears on the edges and has aged to a golden brown. The red and green graphics are still bright and crisp however, unmarked or stained. A previous owner penned “OLD” on the top of the box.
