Antique Celluloid Embossed Mini Bell Ornaments Lot of Five, Early Japan Ornaments 1930s
Very early set of small Japan celluloid bells, a sweet five piece lot each embossed with a unique design including Santa! Circa mid-1920s to early 1930s.
These are quite hard to find, and are so delightful in their subtle lightly embossed design features. There is a wonderful red Santa Head, a silver Monkey, a light purple Angel figure, a gold fluted Bell, and a silver ringed Bell. They measure one inch tall and are unmarked. All have small metal hanging loops attached at the top and are in good antique condition showing age related light wear and some paint loss, the angel quite faded. These are nearing 100 years old!
Celluloid was the first semi-synthetic plastic, a very exciting new material developed in the mid 1800s. This is a must-have set of early Japan celluloid ornaments to add to your plastic Christmas collection!
SIDE NOTE: We have seen these unique ornaments complete in their original Japan box which confirmed our belief that they are early Japan ornaments. When looking closely, the Santa appears to have slight Asian characteristics. Japan first started making Christmas ornaments for the American market in the mid-1920s.
We have a wonderful selection of pre-1946 glass ornaments in our collections!
And, some fun and unique vintage and antique Santas you might like!
