Antique Glass Christmas Ornament Baby in a Buggy with Spoon, Vintage German Figural Glass Ornament, Baby First Christmas, 1920s
Very sweet antique German baby in a buggy glass ornament, circa 1920s. Featured on page 216 of John Lightner’s “Christmas Rarities- Rare Antique German Glass Ornaments”, 2007 edition. Fabulous!
It has wonderful molded details, the baby’s head and arms peeking out from under the blanket. He’s holding a spoon in his left hand. The buggy details are nice too with spoke wheels and the ribbed shade top. The pike appears at the back and is topped with an unmarked Lauscha style metal cap with its flat hanging loop. An original cotton cord hanging loop is attached, always a nice bonus to these very old ornaments. (Cotton hanging loops predate our modern metal ornament hooks.)
It measures 2.5 inches wide and is 1.5 inches tall. It is in excellent antique condition free of chips, cracks, or paint loss. There is a bit of the usual oxidation on the pike.
This is an adorable pre-1946 figural glass Christmas ornament. A very thoughtful and unique gift for new parents this Christmas!
