Vintage German Ornament Clip On Peacock Hand Painted Spun Glass Tail, RARE!
Very scarce antique mercury glass peacock clip on bird ornament, with hard to find painted spun glass tail. Circa later 1940s to 1950s.
It features a deeply molded silver body with red and gold wings, and a turquoise neck and head. The bird has beautifully molded feather and wing details and a bumpy bottom. The beak is super fine, thin, and long. The crown is free blown, and is still perfect, free of chips or breaks. The long spun glass tail feathers have been dyed a light green, and are hand painted with a multi-color radial design. The hand painted black dot eyes finish off this wonderful antique clip on bird ornament.
It measures 6 inches wide beak tip to tail end, the glass body itself is 3.75 inches. The large metal clip is fancy and ornate, with a nice antique scallop shape and original spring legs. It is marked West Germany on the bottom which helps to date this ornament. It is in excellent condition free of chips, breaks, or scratches. There is the usual oxidation at the tail end.
