Giant 9″ Free Blown Glass Christmas Ornament Bimini German Elephant Ornament with Tusks
Stunning and very rare extra large jumbo free blown glass elephant ornament with annealed limbs, tusks, and ears. Circa 1920s, Germany.
This is a very special antique free blown jumbo Bimini glass animal ornament, mouth blown and shaped with a paddle, not from a mold. A one of a kind treasure! It is simply wonderful featuring a shiny silvery-gray body with an annealed hanging loop at the top. The main body is blown to create the long extended pointed trunk. The long pike from which this was blown acts as the tail. The four legs, two big ears, and two long pointy tusks were each free blown separately, then attached by the annealing process to create the finished elephant.
It measures a very large 9 inches wide by 5.25 inches tall and is 4 inches deep. It is in excellent antique condition free of chips, cracks, or breaks. There is a bit of the usual age related oxidation here and there.
These free blown ornaments are very collectible due to the time consuming process and their fragile nature. The body is free blown by the glassblower from a tube of super thin glass, each one a true one-of-a-kind art piece. This is a must-have ornament for any antique German or free blown Christmas ornament collection.
