Large German 2 Sided Egg Candy Container 6″, Vintage Paper Mache Box Musician Chicks 1950s

Delightful vintage German paper maché oval candy container box in a harder to find larger size with two different wonderful designs! Circa late 1940s to early 1950s.

This is such a sweet large egg shaped box covered in bright colorful litho images. On one side find a fun trio of chick musicians. On the second side baby chicks hatch amongst a bright field of flowers and the German lucky spotted mushrooms. There is so much fine detail to these fun images. Please zoom in on the photos to appreciate this wonderful two sided design.

The seams are edged in bright red where the container opens into two halves. A nice floral patterned paper lines the insides of both pieces. The text mark repeats around within the design, “Container Made In Western Germany”. It is super clean inside free of residue or odors. It’s a large size measuring 6 inches by 4 inches. It is in very good vintage condition with the design still intact and crisp. There are no marks, scratches, or creases, just a bit of minimum light wear and one small area of paper loss on the side.

What a wonderful addition to any German paper maché box collection!

SIDE NOTE: This is a very early Western Germany decoration, created in later 1949 and into the very early 1950s. Post war regulations after May 23, 1949 required all imported goods to be marked West Germany. Note that this container is marked “Western Germany” which indicates how early this is, since the more common mark used later was simply “West Germany”.
