Vintage Candy Container Ornament, German Paper Maché Candy Box Angels, Antique Vintage Candy Containers, 1950s Christmas
Really sweet early 1950s German candy container ornament, featuring a snowy village scene with two angels lighting the way!
This is a very early Western Germany Christmas decoration and it is in amazing condition. This ornament was created in later 1949 and into the very early 1950s. (Post war regulations after May 23, 1949 required all imported goods to be marked West Germany. Note that this container is marked “Western Germany” which indicates how early this is, since the more common mark used later was simply “West Germany”.)
It is a delightful vintage candy container full of color and detail. Two angels bearing gifts, snowy trees, and a starry night sky make up this wonderful scene. A bit of the village can be seen in the background. Bright gold foil paper frames the design which repeats on both sides of the ornament. The seams are edged in bright red where the container opens into two halves. A nice floral patterned paper lines the insides of both pieces. The text mark repeats around within the design, “Container Made In Western Germany”. It is super clean inside with no candy residue. It measures 2.75 inches wide and has a gold cord hanging loop at the top.
What a wonderful addition to any antique Christmas candy container collection, or use on the tree and treat your family this coming holiday season!
SIDE NOTE: Sweets for children at Christmastime have always been an important part of holiday celebrations. The highly collectible antique German candy container grew out of the German toy industry in the 1880s. Once emptied of candy, these wonderful containers might be saved as ornaments or decorations for years to come. Yet many were destroyed in the opening process, or simply thrown away once their contents were consumed. These are hard to find in such pristine condition!
We have a sister ornament to this one, a German Vintage Candy Container with two angels in a snowy village scene!
