Vintage German Figural Glass Christmas Ornament John Bull Berry UK Character 1930s

Classic antique German figural glass ornament featuring the United Kingdom’s John Bull character with a berried bottom! Circa 1930s.

John Bull is a fictional figure representing England who was created in the early 1700s, similar in some ways to the American ‘Uncle Sam’. He originated in satirical works and would come to stand for ‘English liberty’ in opposition to revolutionaries. He was popular through the 18th and 19th centuries.

He has wonderful molded detailing with his well known classic features–a large balding head, big mouth, and bow tie. This hard to find verion has him with a bumpy red strawberry base, so unique! He measures 3.5 inches tall to the top of the original Lauscha style metal cap and is in very good antique condition free of chips or cracks, the pike intact.

He’s a wonderful rare old German ornament, a must have for the figural ornament collector!

We have a wonderful collection of antique pre-1946 glass Christmas ornaments !

And, some lovely Victorian angel ornaments.
