Vintage Parrot Clip On Ornament, German Mercury Glass Bird Christmas Ornament, Figural Glass Ornaments

Handsome vintage blown glass clip on parrot bird Christmas ornament with wonderful molded detail. Circa later 1940s Germany.

The bird is highly sculptural with finely molded feather, breast, and wing details. The tail feathers are the original spun glass. The blown glass is very thin and fine, typical of this early era of German glass ornament making. The head is hand painted a dark forest green, and the wings a rusty red. These colors emerged after WWII which helps to date this fine ornament.

It measures 5.25 inches wide, crown tip to tail end. The blown glass body is 3.5 inches. The lacquer paints are still bright and crisp. It is in excellent antique condition free of chips, cracks, or paint loss. There is some usual oxidation at the tail end and on the clip.
