1910s Antique German Wire Wrapped Flower Basket Figural Glass Christmas Ornament with Berries
Lovely early antique German wire wrapped mercury glass ornament, featuring a striking striped magenta vase holding red berries! Circa 1910s-1920s.
The beautiful Victorian flower basket pot is nicely molded, finished with a long pike which holds the foliage bouquet. Two bright red composition berries are framed with small green feathers which act as leaves. It is made of very thin blown mercury glass, typical of this era. The basket stripes are a bright magenta-pink lacquer and silver. It is tightly wrapped with two styles of super thin silver crinkly wire. The unique long handle is composed of a thick cotton cord which is wrapped with a curly ivory color twine that has a floral look.
It measures 5.5 inches tall to the top of the handle. The glass basket is 2.25 inches tall to the top of the pike. It is in excellent antique condition free of any chips or cracks with minor paint loss. A few of the thin wires have broken, as is usual with ornaments this old from this era.
This antique ornament is so elegant and beautiful, making a lovely statement on the Christmas tree. A beautiful addition to any antique German or wire wrapped ornament collection.
