Antique Figural Glass Ornament Punch Clown Germany, Punch and Judy Ornament 1930s, AS-IS
A unique, hard to find antique German mercury glass figural character ornament circa late 1920s-1930s. As-Is with a professional repair to the head pike area.
Character ornaments were very popular in the early part of the 20th Century. This is Punch the Clown, from the Victorian Punch and Judy puppet shows. He has so much detail to the molded figure with his bright green clown suit lined with a white ruffle collar. His pointed hat is red with hand painted white polka dots. His hands rest on his big belly.
The expressive face has hand painted features including black eyes and pointed eyebrows, and a magenta mouth which echoes the color of his hat. A repair has been made to part of the head and hat area, using a thin red strip of sealant which blends in nicely. Please view the detail photos which show all sides. The ornament still displays beautifully and it is priced accordingly.
It measures 3.75 inches tall to the top of the original Lauscha style metal cap. There are a few areas of paint loss.
An antique Punch Clown is a must-have for any antique German or figural Christmas ornament collection. A very thoughtful and unique gift!
SIDE NOTE: This special ornament is featured on page 70 of John Lightner’s “Christmas Rarities”, 2007 edition, and had a book value back then at $175-$225 if perfect. Our low price reflects the repair.
