Vintage Tinsel Christmas Ornament Paper Mâché Lucky Chimney Sweep in Wreath
Super rare vintage chimney sweep good luck Christmas ornament centered in a wonderful tinsel wreath! Circa 1950s.
In Germany and other regions of Europe, chimney sweeps, or Kaminkehrer, are considered to be lucky omens. This tradition dates back to the idea that chimney sweeps were often the first to wish people well, making them “good luck bringers”. Modern tradition states that if you want good luck for the year shake a chimney sweep’s hand on New Years Day or rub his gold buttons
This is an excellent vintage Christmas ornament, featuring a sparkly silver tinsel wreath interspersed with red chenille. It frames a molded paper mâché chimney sweep which gives it a 3D feel. It features incredible detail including a hand painted face. He wears the classic black work suit and holds his ladder in front of him with a tool at his side. He also carries a bag of tools on his back. It is finished with a large silver bead at the top and topped with a long silver tube bead for hanging.
It measures 5 inches tall, not counting the tube bead. The figure measures 4 inches tall. This ornament is in excellent condition, free of any damage, oxidation, or missing parts.
